Catching up with friends at coffee shops in Pune

The original meaning of Café/Coffee shops is a small informal place where coffee and light food is served. Traditionally coffee shops used to be parts of hotels only. But these days coffee shops in Pune are best known as second home to Punekars. Or in other words cafes in Pune is the heartthrob of young Puneites.

There were days when Pune was all about hotels and restaurants only. If you needed refreshment, choice was between either streetfoods from road side vendors or established formal restaurants. So choice was made depending on time not on mood or personal preferences. If it was evening you would be visiting the street vendor otherwise restaurants as restaurants are mostly formal and they have their own fixed schedules. And then you can also never forget the weight of your back pocket before you pick your venue. And being a student it used to be my personal concern all through these years.

Things were pretty basic actually back at that time. I still remember when Pune had handful of malls where food courts were allowed, forget the restaurants in mall. We had to pick a movie hall with a restaurant or good food joint nearby. Thankfully the café culture in Pune has launched few years back. And finally we get entry to our own food world.

Though there were plenty of old coffee shops in Pune before café life, they were only popular between students. And the food got stuck in the memory of academic life which turned into nostalgia later. But these newly launched cafes in Pune just opened a brand new door to the foodies, regardless of their age or professions. Another good thing was introduced through these cafes, food stops in shopping malls. Not any more boring shop hops without deliciousness in mouth.

I personally feel cafes in Pune are pure bliss, especially for a late riser like me or who has some odd work schedule. Before having a simple outside lunch on weekends were such an traumatic experience for me as I had to wrap up my things within lunch time of restaurants which was pretty painful; trust me, experience speaks a lot! But now, I simply do things in my own way and whenever I feel to get a bite I land myself in the nearest coffee shop. Voila! I’m done for the day!

In other days, mostly week days if I have to catch up with my friends or have to meet someone from work I simply pick a good cafe in Pune and just update others with it. Good old friends, lots of chat, bit of nostalgia are best paired with a cup of good coffee. And the icing on the cake is a plateful of great snacks. Who else can offer you so much to make another great memento with your friends? A great café!

Yes, I personally believe restaurants can fill your stomach and cafes in Pune can fill your heart & soul.
