That perfect Sunday breakfast palate with piping hot Club Kachori, Alur Jhaljhal Torkari (Aloo Sabzi) with sugar syrup laden Kesariya Jalebi and occasional sip of Malai-wala Chai. We miss that so much, I realized how much we love and need our Halwai/mothaiwalas.
We can not go to them right now as almost all of them had headed towards their home due to this pandemic outbreak. And those are here they can’t open the shop due to lockdown and lack of manpower. So I tried to Halwai for half a day and created our Sunday favourites at home.
After making just three of these (actually I couldn’t even finish the curry, Bhatti took over for last 5/6 mins) I had to call it a day and asked Bhatti to make the chai before stepping into my studio to take this and few other photographs.
End of the day the exhaustion and stomach full of these goodies made me sleep for hours which went missing for long time. My little effort made realize how difficult this job is. I can’t stop admiring how they do it every single day and at the same time dealing with thousands of us with a smile.
This is my small tribute to all our Halwai and Mithaiwala if India who work tirelessly to throughout the year to keep us content.
