Amra holam bheto Bangali . We are known for our enormous love for rice. We need to have a glimpse of it every day, be it in lunch or dinner. But for those, like me, who are not very fond of rice, it’s very difficult to catch up with rest of the family members. So I keep looking for different variations of rice preparations. Some of the preparations are not only tasty, but also takes almost same time to cook as plain rice.
Here is a perfect example of that, Peas Pulao. I depend on the microwave for it as it’s more efficient than conventional gas oven. It completes the entire job in just 15 mins. Isn’t it great? It works as a magic for me. This peas pulao has become almost regular on our platter.
Rice: 1 cup
Peas: ½ cup
Bay leaves: 1-2
Cloves: 8-10
Cinnamon stick: 2 of 1”
Ghee or clarified butter: 1 tbsp
Water (room temperature): 1 ½ -2 cups
Salt to taste
Preparations:
Wash the rice under running water several times and soak it for 30 mins (at least).
Add ghee in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave it for 30 secs on High (900W).
Add bay leaves, cloves and cinnamon stick and put it back to the oven. Microwave it for 1 minute on High (900W).
Drain the water and put the rice in the bowl and mix well. Microwave it for another minute on High (900W).
Now add hot water and salt.
Cover the bowl with cling film. Set 10 minutes on microwave mode, High (900W).
When it is done don’t get too excited to touch or open it immediately and keep it on standby for 5 more minutes.
