Shopping always makes me sick and when it comes to grocery shopping I would love to stick to home delivery and simple bread-butter if possible. But hey, that also I need to buy! So a coffee treat is mandatory after shopping for me to regain my energy. Since I was introduced to Dorabjee’s I finally got the point of ‘shopping with fun’; who wouldn’t be happy to eat a cupcake while checking the list of weekly grocery shopping!
Ambiance:
It’s a super market for your grocery shopping. What can you expect? Tthey’ve provided a small snacks section in front of the main entrance of the mall and a large spacious café area with a beautiful view. Just pick up your dish, grab a coffee and get settled on a cozy table.
Food:
Coffee:
Café Mocha
This creamy Café Mocha has strong taste of coffee and hint of chocolate syrup on top of frothy foam. If you prefer your coffee bit sweet then you have to ask for extra sugar sachets. They also have few good choices of coffee in their menu but somehow I prefer this one most.
Food:
Chicken Momo
Chicken Momo seems to be a very simple dish but it is quite a critical dish which needs cook’s constant attention and skills. I have seen many renowned places to go down over this simple looking steamed dumpling. But I’m glad I can enjoy a plateful of heaven in Dorabjee’s Coffee Corner each and every time. The shells are always cooked beautifully, filings are enough to keep your mouth shut and the spicy sauce is there just to enhance the flavors. It is my ‘have to have’ dish on my each visit; no matter how full I am!
Chicken Roll @40
This is my second favorite after momo. I’m a complete sandwich girl and I don’t miss my bread at any possible moments. I almost tasted every bread item of this shop (whichever is available when I visit) and this Chicken Rollis my personal favorite. Creamy filling of shredded chicken (no cheese) with perfect seasoning makes me hungry each time.
Chicken Kathi Roll @50
It is a regular Chicken Kathi Roll, filled with spicy tangy chicken cubes. Tastes always good but few times found the roti bit dry, especially late evening.
Chicken Mushroom Flan @50
I don’t know where they found the recipe of this scrumptious dish but it’s a gift. Whenever my tummy demands something more than a chicken roll I go for this Chicken Mushroom Flan. It’s extremely fulfilling and delicious. The moist filling of shredded chicken and mushroom (with egg based batter) between the crispy layers of pie sheets is a beautiful combo to enjoy anytime.
Baked Chicken Leg (Lasoni & Kalonji) @70
Another thing about Dorabjee’s kitchen I love is, they actually serve baked chicken instead of fried ones. I’ve tried two versions of baked chicken; Lasoni Baked Chicken and Kalonji Baked Chicken. Both are good in taste; moist and well cooked. But if you are carrying it back to home it may taste bit dry. Personally I prefer the one with nigella seeds or kalonji with refreshing aroma.
Dessert:
Swiss Chocolate
The sponge is very rich and puffy, chocolate cream is light and less sweet. Love the small silver sprinkles on the top. Serving portion is small and good to go with coffee. I bring it back home very often for the next day breakfast and it always tasted good too.
Apple Crumb Pie
I’m a lover of homemade Apple Crumb Pie and I seldom like it elsewhere. I had tried it in many places but always found something missing; sometimes it’s too dry or too moist with apple sauce instead of real apple. But I like the way Dorabjee’s people bake it, it’s perfect; neither too sweet, nor too dry. This one also tastes equally delicious on the next day.
Chocolate Éclairs
I always wanted to taste a good Chocolate Éclairs in Pune but never had found such a place. Recently I tried one at Dorabjee’s and it was quite good though I wasn’t so surprised. They know how to cook and bake; I like most of their items. The éclairs breads were filled with more than enough cream inside and covered with chocolate. The bitterness of the chocolate, and sweetness from the cream and pale saltiness from the bread make it just divine. It may not be the best tasted Chocolate éclairs but it is definitely one of the good ones.
Blueberry Cheesecake & Coffee Cheesecake
Both cheesecakes are always fresh and light, not so sweet on soft crust.
Service:
Dorabjee’s coffee corner is on self-service. But you will always find someone whenever you need. They are always there but not bothering anyone. I love this here; saves our privacy but doesn’t push us in trouble.
Pros:
Ambiance, especially the view from second floor food court area,
Good quality food,
Maintaining the standard,
Cost.
Cons:
Availability of food on weekends after late evening.
Cost:
Cost for two people 400 INR (coffee + snacks + dessert).
Verdict:
I’m there on every possible Sundays!
Rating: 5/5
